Seuss Deez: Horton Hears a Who!

OI actually wasn't familiar with this book as a child. In fact I didn't know the plot until yesterday. true story. I went online and read the book and discovered it was a profound little tale. Here is a synposis I swiped form wikipedia if you haven't read it either:

The book tells the story of Horton the Elephant who, on the fifteenth of May in the Jungle of Nool, hears a small speck of dust talking to him. It turns out the speck of dust is actually a tiny planet, home to a city called ‘‘Who-ville’’, inhabited by microscopic-sized inhabitants known as Whos and led by a character known as the mayor.

The Whos ask Horton (who, though he cannot see them, is able to hear them quite well) to protect them from harm, which Horton happily agrees to do, proclaiming throughout the book that ‘‘even though you can’t see or hear them at all, a person’s a person, no matter how small’’. In doing so he is ridiculed and forced into a cage by the other animals in the jungle for believing in something that they are unable to see or hear. His chief tormentors are Vlad Vladikoff, the Wickersham Brothers and the Sour Kangaroo. Horton tells the Whos that, lest they end up being boiled in ‘‘Beezelnut Oil’’, they need to make themselves heard to the other animals. The Whos finally accomplish this by ensuring that all members of their society play their part. In the end it is a ‘‘very small shirker named JoJo’’ whose final addition to the volume creates enough lift for the jungle to hear the sound, thus reinforcing the moral of ‘‘a person’s a person, no matter how small’’.

Now convinced of the Whos’ existence, Horton’s neighbors vow to help him protect the tiny community.

So now that we have all that out the way, here is our conversation... (don't you miss our IM's?)

T 2U (12:43 PM): the answers to the problems addressed in the state of the black union can be found in horton hears a who
T 2U (12:43 PM): thank you very much

Alise (12:45 PM): like?
Alise (12:45 PM): (i haven't read it, so i don't know)

T 2U (12:47 PM): i haven't either but i'm using my creative license to make the shit fit

Alise (12:47 PM): nice!

You ever meet that person who talks loudly and says nothing? I know plenty. They usually hide behind the excuse of, "that's just my personality," or "don't change/judge me." Yes, of course we've talked about this type of person a million times, but I am beating this dead horse for a reason. This type of person is the downfall of our community and country as a whole. Why, you ask. These are the people who talk so loudly that the "whos" (us, the idealists) are never heard by the "Hortons" ("them", the semi-genuine politicians, the altruistic managers, etc.).

T 2U (2:28 PM): just some "whos" trying to make a peep in a crowded club straining vocals against the rants of the fear mongering populous trying to overcompensate for their ever diminishing importance in life in general
T 2U (2:28 PM): they have no purpose but must be heard
T 2U (2:28 PM): i need an open mic!!

Alise (2:29 PM): nice
Alise (2:29 PM): that's going in the post

The loud idiot is not only annoying and distracting, but are never flexible and never reasonable. (Read: Don't judge/change me) These are the ones that proclaim a government attempting to provide healthcare as socialist without knowing the definition of socialist. As a matter of fact they don't know what capitalist, democracy, or the 3 branches of our government. Yet, will be the same one on camera next week saying why is the government not addressing our healthcare needs. Yes, the loud idiot is also a hypocrite, but are too loud and busy talking that they fail to realize it. They always choose the Public opinion du jour from the menu. uncool.

Right now I just pray that our Horton hears us before us dust particles get sucked up by the machine vacuum .

Good readers, who or what else do you think is so loud or distracting that causes us Whos not to be heard?

Suess Deez: Green Eggs and Ham

Sam constantly badgers an unnamed character to try green eggs and ham. The unnamed character refuses to taste the dish, insisting that he would not like it.

Being the daredevil of life (not afraid to try new and different things, not necessarily jumping from planes, but will jump into new relationships just to see what would happen), I have a trunk load of fun and interesting things I’ve discovered over the years. I like odd and different things as well, so my trunk is very eclectic. I enjoy green eggs and ham. Its that hot sh*t! Its good for me, makes me feel healthy and I’m pretty sure it’ll be good for you too. I hear you complain often about how crappy you feel, so I’m trying to help you out by putting you on to some green eggs and ham! What? you’ve never heard of them? Don’t like the way they look? Don’t want to try them because they’re different? But I’m telling you, from personal experience, they are good for you. Still not convinced huh? Well think of them like healthcare reform, good for all once we tailor it to fit our people and economy. I can tailor the green eggs and ham too, you like your eggs fried hard right? Still not convinced? AND you don’t believe in healthcare reform either????

Well I’m NOT Sam-I-Am. I’m just not that persistent. You can just die from your ailments and not get any treatment with medicare. More green eggs and ham for me!

The moral of the book is to teach persistence, especially if you believe in something. I have a hard time distinguishing between persistence and begging. It all feels like begging to me, which is something the kid doesn’t do. Oh well. Persistence is good, and good luck with that!

Seuss Deez: Hop on Pop

*alert: Daddy issues abound*

The book "Hop on Pop" is just a cute little poem with simple rhymes constructed to introduce kids to reading. It is one of the first books I remember reading. I chose to relate this book to my life for simply the title. I am jealous of the title. I wish I could have hopped on my pop. Even though pop only lived 10-15 minutes away, he might as well have lived on the moon. Actually if he lived on the moon I would have had something to brag about at Show and Tell. I'm not going to go to Show and Tell and say:

"This week is a Tell... well let me tell you about my daddy... He is the GREATEST liar I have ever met, he is so cool that he works no where and uses anyone he meets. And oh my he is consistent, he has consistently never given me a birthday or Christmas present, pretty awesome isn't it?"

***side-eye of death***

I digress. Well, not really. I know folks will want to tell me that I should forgive, and you would be absolutely correct. Does it make you feel good to be right? (lol) I just feel like I should be able to vent about his inadequacy. It's half myblog and sh*t... I also can now admit my jealousy that my little brother gets to hop on Pop, but myself and 3 older siblings did not. That's my real issue. Le sigh. Done venting. (for today anyway)

And while you're here, go ahead and vent too...

Suess Deez: There's a Wocket in my Pocket

There’s a Wocket in My Pocket
A little boy talks about what strange creatures live in his house, such as the yeps on the steps, the nooth grush on his toothbrush, the yottle in the bottle and the jertain in the curtain.
editors note: They edited the book to take out some of the scarier creatures, boo them.

Ladies and Gentlemen and thugs, lets just take a moment to keep it real. We all have wockets in our pockets, some yeps, nooths, and yottles. We all have aspect of our personalities that we are proud of and some that we are not. When interacting with people, we can have the good ones show up, and place the bad ones away for awhile. However I caution all of you, when entering into a relationship with someone, (yeah I took it there) I think that all of your wockets, yeps and yottles need to come on downstairs and be introduced. You can’t hide them! They will always come out, eventually, and you don’t want their coming out party signify the end of your relationship. You need to know up front if your wocket will get along with your partner’s yep. Its just good business all around.

So to strengthen my relationship with my readers, I would like all of you to meet my Wocket.

*passing Ms. Wocket the mic , Wocket says “have you guys been totally honest with your partners in revealing yourself? If not did it end up biting you in the end? Because I bite!”

Thank you Ms. Wocket. Please answer her question, I have to live with her…

Seuss Deez: The Cat in the Hat

This week we are having visitation with our inner children. As part of the custody agreement we are ordered to read Dr. Seuss books to these ungrateful little hellions. Then we have to explain to these bastards how these books will help them when they get old and 30. The things you do for the kids... sigh...

Well kiddies there is this book called the Cat in the Hat, and it's pretty dope. Here's how it goes:

So these parents who work to support these little bad ass children have to leave them home alone. (sidebar: Where was CPS, these kids were kinda young?) It's all raining and stuff, they are pretty bored and what not. You see back then kids used to go outside and play and they had no Wii so rainy days pretty much sucked. So they are moping and pouting and sh*t stuff, and out of nowhere pops up this crazy cat and his homies Thing One and Thing Two. The cat and his homies perform all types of tricks and crazy antics to entertain the kids. The whole while the kids and their hater goldfish try to reign in the cat, they try to subdue his free spirit. The cat means no harm and after he finishes entertaining the hater children, he even cleans up.

The moral of this story is when something new comes in to your life don't fight it. Sometimes you have to learn how to embrace this new thing and find a way to coexist and to gain from it. Don't let the stuffy hater, "do everything by the book" outsiders try to control it. The whole situation will leave you better and will clean up and be beneficial to you in the long run. Allow something out of your comfort zone to brighten your rainy day(s). Free your mind and sh*t....

tomorrow: Seuss Deez, "There's a Wocket in my Pocket"....
